Matthew Whitty Skates for Poverty

Matthew to Skate 87 Miles to Build a Village and School in Nicaragua

October 12, 2007Kids With A Cause

Hello Everyone,

Matthew Whitty was unable to skate the A2A event on October 7, 2007 do to a stress fracture in his foot. The stress fracture accorded during training for this event and several others. Matthew's Therapist and Coaches did not think his foot was strong enough to skate 87 miles. Matthew is starting to train again and will
be more then ready to compete in the A2A next year on October 12,
2008.

Matthew is very sorry he could not make this event and is looking forward to a healthy season and participating in next years event. Matthew is still raising money via his web-site
http://www.matthew-whitty.com/Nicaragua/, this is a great cause to help end poverty. Please Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions that may arise because of this at matthewwhitty@gmail.com

I'm asking for some help to do some good for people outside of the United States concerning poverty. We are really lucky here in the USA and rarely do we think of other parts of the world like India, Nicaragua and Africa and the poverty they live in every day.

Children on metal frame bed with no mattressThis request is about Nicaragua, where many people know "home" as a cardboard structure covered with plastic. We know home as an apartment or a house with running water, heat if we are cold, air conditioning if we are hot and the ability to take a hot shoWood and plastic shanty they call homewer whenever we want by turning on a faucet. The people I am talking about in Nicaragua have no idea what a hot or warm shower is like. They don't have bathrooms; they use an outhouse. They eat and sleep in their homes, which they call huts, but in all actuality they are nothing more than cardboard structures covered in plastic to protect them from the elements. I will personally be going over to Nicaragua on many trips to work hands on to make sure this project gets completed successfully.

I want to raise $150,000 to build 20 houses and a school. Yes that's right only $150,000 will fund construction of 20 family houses and a school for the entire village. I know we can come together to help give children we may never meet or ever know break the cycle of poverty in their everyday lives. I'm really asking for all your help on this. What I am going to do is Skate a Race that is called A2A. It's called Athens to Atlanta Road Skate where you race 87 miles. I am going to skate from Athens, GA to Atlanta,GA. This race takes place October 12, 2008.

I'm going to keep this site up to accept donations starting January 1 2007 through October 12, 2008. Every penny that is contributed will be donated to "KIDS WITH A CAUSE" to build 20 houses and a school for these families that really need homes and a place to learn in Nicaragua. You can learn more about A2A at www.a2a.net and Kids With A Cause at www.kidswithacause.org.

We might have a film crew at A2A covering this race for a Reality TV Show, This is depending on the time frame of production, so help donate and come by say to hi and you may see yourself on TV if we are filming during this time frame..

I really want to take this time to thank Linda Finnegan, Founder and Executive Director of Kids With A Cause, for doing such outstanding work and starting a wonderful charity and also asking me to become an ambassador for this charitable organization. I'm really honored and proud to be a member and part of the family at Kids With A Cause.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to check this out and also for making a donation and making a difference.
